The Lab is a great place to learn and grow. Brett and the other teachers are amazingly patient and knowledgable, and he's created a warm and welcoming environment whether you are a rank beginner or an experienced grappler. Classes are challenging and fun. This place is the best.
I consider myself very lucky that I get train with such a wonderful, supportive group of people. Even when I couldn't make the evening classes and could only make the open mats (which is changing next week yay!), everyone was very helpful in making sure that I learned new techniques. Honestly I don't care where you live. Coming here is worth the travel.

This is the place you want to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from. I trained with Brett and The Lab for over a year before I had to move out of Dedham, and my experience there was nothing short of stellar. The vibe, talent, and people at The Lab are all equally fantastic. I only trained BJJ there, but if you want to learn striking or strength and conditioning training, Brett has ALL the toys. If you are looking for a place to train or learn BJJ in the Dedham area, in my opinion there is no other option. I’d still be there if I hadn’t moved.
Awesome gym! Brett is a great teacher and very patient with all students, regardless of age and experience. Both my kids (4 and 6) are in the kids training program and I am in the adult program. Highly recommended!
I’ve been training BJJ at The Lab for more than six months. The academy is always clean and well run. Brett and the staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and very patient with all students. Brett gives individual attention to each student and maintains a positive pro-growth approach. The environment and culture of at The Lab is welcoming and supportive. This is a great place to train BJJ.
I joined the Lab about 7 months ago after trying different gyms all around. It was the best decision i made for myself. The strength and conditioning classes here are amazing, in just a few months i feel the difference and am 100% happier with myself. I feel stronger and can see the improvements. Something ive always wanted in a gym. The trainers here are amazing always making sure im working out properly and keeping me motivated! I was not able to go for the last 10 days due to personal reasons and went back today, im feeling fantastic again! (During the 10 days i was out the owner Brett checked in on me to be sure i was ok , that speaks volumes! ) I love being a part of the Lab. I highly recommend joining!
The head coach of the Lab Brett Oteri is very friendly and welcoming to all people no matter experience level. I have noticed he makes sure to address the concerns of all his students from the lower ranks- higher ranks equally. He genuinely want to see all of his students succeed not only in martial arts but in life.
This place is great! I signed my two sons up for these classes and they absolutely love it. The coaches are amazing and work well with the kids. It is very family oriented, the parents are allowed to sit and watch their children for the entire class. And the prices are very affordable and reasonable! I would definitely recommend to any parent looking to keep their child busy and moving around and also have fun while doing so!

For your first class in our women's self-defense series, wear comfortable athletic clothing, like a fitted t-shirt paired with yoga pants or shorts. If you have shoes that offer good traction, feel free to wear those. If you have any gear, such as gloves, bring them along, but we're happy to provide basic equipment for you.
No previous experience is required! Our women's self-defense and strength training classes cater to all fitness levels. Our instructors will support you every step of the way, ensuring you feel confident and at ease throughout the entire program.
Your first self-defense class will cover fundamental techniques and strategies. You'll learn practical skills designed to enhance your confidence, as well as engage in strength and conditioning exercises tailored for your abilities. Classes typically finish with a scenario-based practice to reinforce the techniques you've learned.
For the best results, we suggest participating in classes at least 2-3 times a week. Regular training will help you build your skills and improve your fitness level. Consistency is essential for making progress in self-defense and strength training!
